Our new non-invasive Cardiac Scoring test helps determine your risk for coronary artery disease.
Approximately 58 million Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease and more Americans die from heart disease than all types of cancer combined. To help combat this number one killer, Lake Medical Imaging offers a special procedure called Cardiac Scoring.
Cardiac Scoring is a fast, painless, inexpensive procedure that could save your life. Using our state-of-the art CT (Computed Tomography) scanner, multiple images of the heart are taken within seconds. The amount of calcium or plaque within the coronary arteries is then determined. One of our board certified radiologists then calculates the patient’s cardiac score.
The presence and location of calcified plaque is identified by this procedure. In brief, a low score makes the presence of significant coronary artery disease unlikely. Likewise, patients with an intermediate or high score have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.
By having the Cardiac Scoring test done, the detection of heart disease is possible before symptoms even occur. Armed with this information, your physician can then recommend appropriate treatment, including diet, lifestyle changes, medication, and or further testing. The disease process may then be slowed, halted or even possibly reversed.
Cardiac Scoring is not for everyone. It is most appropriate for men over 35 and women over 40 who have any of the following risk factors:
* Age (women over 45 and men over 35)
* High Cholesterol
* History of smoking
* High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
* Diabetes
* Family History of Heart Disease
* Obesity
It is not indicated for patients with known coronary artery disease, resting tachycardia or pregnant.
