Lake Medical Imaging First
In "Filmless" Radiology In Lake County
Lake Medical Imaging was one of the first radiology centers in Florida to incorporate a revolutionary new way of managing its heavy volume of medical imaging.
Lake Medical Imaging is pioneering the field of filmless imaging and making a tremendous difference for physicians, patients and staff. The PACS (Picture Archival and Communication System) technology utilizes computers to display, archive, transmit, and restore radiologic images. It gives physicians immediate access to patient images, written reports, and audio report summaries from the radiologist at any location where a PC can be used, including in the operating room, via the internet. The new system encompasses all imaging except mammography.
According to Cathrine Keller, MD, the PACS system offers several advantages to physicians and surgeons, including elimination of lost films and reports (which will be permanently stored on DVD disks), as well as immediate access around the clock to images and reports at their own computer. Physicians no longer need to hunt down bulky X-Ray films of CT, MRI and ultrasound studies, and can even listen to a voice-clip summary of the exam dictated by the radiologist.
The new system also produces a montage of multiple images from a patient's exam on a single sheet of paper that accompanies a written report. This paper "hard copy" can be permanently retained by the physician in the patient's chart. Replacement paper copies can be made available at any time. The environmental benefits of eliminating X-Ray films are also substantial.
